HSA/FSA and Truemed Frequently Asked Questions
What are HSA and FSA accounts?
- They let you set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible healthcare expenses.
- If you’re not sure whether you have one, check with your employer or insurance provider.
How does this save me money?
- You pay full price, and there’s no discount on the product itself.
- Your savings come from paying with pre-tax dollars, so the amount depends on your individual tax rate.
What is a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN), and is this compliant?
- An LMN is issued by an independent licensed clinician after you complete Truemed’s health questionnaire.
- It documents that a purchase helps treat or prevent a health condition, which makes it a qualified medical expense under IRS rules, the same as a doctor’s visit or prescription.
Are there any fees?
- No. There’s no cost to you when you shop with a Truemed partner like Stegmann.
Who is eligible?
- You need an HSA or FSA account, or plan to fund one during open enrollment. If you don’t have one, ask your employer’s HR or benefits team about enrollment options.
- Truemed is currently available only in the United States.
- Not everyone qualifies. An independent clinician decides eligibility based on the health information you provide.
Checking Out
How do I use my HSA/FSA at Stegmann?
- Select Truemed as your payment option at checkout.
- Pay with your HSA/FSA card like any other credit card.
Can I split payment between my HSA/FSA card and another card?
- Yes. Split Pay lets you divide one order between your HSA/FSA card and a regular credit or debit card. This helps if your balance doesn’t cover the full order.
- Split Pay is available for one-time purchases only.
Can I pay with a regular credit card and get reimbursed later?
- Yes. Choose your regular card in Truemed checkout.
- After your purchase, submit your LMN and receipt to your HSA/FSA administrator. This usually means uploading both documents in the claims section of the administrator’s portal.
When should I use my HSA/FSA dollars?
- You can use them any time of year.
- Many FSA plans expire unused funds at year-end, so check your plan’s deadline and use it before you lose it.
Your Letter of Medical Necessity
How long does it take to get my LMN?
- Most letters are issued within a few hours. Some take up to 1–2 business days if the clinician needs more time.
I haven’t received my LMN. What should I do?
- Log in to your Truemed dashboard at truemed.com to check the status.
- Check your spam or junk folder for emails from Truemed.
- Make sure you finished the full questionnaire, since it may have timed out.
- If you still can’t find it, email support@truemed.com.
Why wasn’t I approved?
- Eligibility is determined by an independent clinician. For questions about your result, contact support@truemed.com.
Troubleshooting
I don’t see the Truemed option at checkout.
- If you’re signed in to Shop Pay, log out and check out as a guest.
- Truemed is only available on stegmannusa.com. It isn’t available through Amazon or other retailers.

My HSA/FSA card was declined.
- Check your account balance, and confirm your card is activated and not expired.
- Ask your card issuer about daily limits or the reason for the decline.
- You can also pay with a regular card and submit for reimbursement using your LMN and receipt.
