Stonesheep

The Tirolean Stonesheep (Tiroler Steinschaf) is one of the oldest existing sheep species on earth. These sheep have been bred on remote mountain farms for centuries in Tirol for their meat, milk, and wool. Their wool was in high demand especially in the 20th century to produce loden cloth. Today, the Tirolean Stonesheep is a rare species. The estimated Austrian population is around 4,000 sheep, and 14,000 worldwide. This clog is part of our Species Preservation Initiative and helps support this rare breed.

Shetland

Shetland sheep are native to the Shetland Islands in Scotland. The breed traces its roots to the ancient Nordic heather sheep and has been recorded in history since the Stone Age. The wool of the Shetland Sheep is very high quality with a high level of elasticity. Once a year, in the springtime, the sheep shed their wool. At that time the wool can be easily loosened and detached without shearing, but rather by picking it.This clog is part of our Species Preservation Initiative and helps support this rare breed.

Juraschaf

The Juraschaf is native to Switzerland and spends most of its life in the Alps. The breed is popular in Switzerland and its wool is in high demand for its high quality, dark color and fine fiber structure. It is well known for its ability to thrive in tough alpine conditions. Raw wool ranges from dark brown to completely black. When blended for our clogs, it produces a rich, deep espresso brown. Juraschaf wool is soft and fine, with all the wonderful natural insulating properties of alpine sheep wool. This clog is part of our Species Preservation Initiative and helps support this rare breed.

Alpaca

Alpaca is a well-known wool producer and is raised all around the world. The wool we use is from the Peruvian Alpaca, which is native to the Andes in South America. Their wool is highly prized for being softer and silkier than cashmere, yet very durable and warm. Our wool is called "baby alpaca" and is sourced from a Fair Trade Certified & Cruelty Free Collective. "Baby Alpaca" does not refer to the age of the alpaca, but rather the grade of the wool - Baby being the finest and softest.

Coburg Fox Sheep

The Coburg Fox sheep is a robust breed native to Germany. The speciality of this wool is its reddish-brown colour. When lambs are born, their color can be from goldish yellow to reddish brown, which can appear golden. Over the years it brightens up but it always keeps its reddish-brown or golden shimmer. There are currently only a few thousand Coburg sheep in existence. The wool is a medium gauge that is both soft and hardy, making it ideal for felting.

Love my Eco

Got my new Eco Shetland clogs a couple of weeks ago and have been loving them. So soft (no socks) and warm without overheating. These are my in-house go-to at this point. Love that they support heritage breeds, humane husbandry and earth-friendly practices. So much to love! I thought the original was good, but these are even better. I recommend to anyone--especially if you need comfortable support. Thank you Stegmann for having these options.

Great arch support

These are my first pair of Stegmann clogs and I'm delighted. I have a history of plantar fasciitis and my former brand of wool slippers no longer seem to feature the sturdy arch support which has been so beneficial for me, so I was thrilled to find Stegmann's. I've never worn a clog style before, but find that they stay on my feet just fine and, of course, they're easy to slip on and off when using them, as I do, as a house shoe/slipper. I tried two sizes and either would probably have been fine, but went with my regular size since I'll usually wear with socks, and the fit is great. The Eco (Juraschaf) was on sale, and coincidentally, was the exact style and color I had been contemplating. I love that they feature the natural color of the sheep's wool and support heritage breeds. If you keep making clogs with these great arch support soles, I'll be a customer for life.
